Biden to discuss with UK PM permission for Ukrainian strikes on Russia using long-range weapons
On Friday, September 13, US President Joe Biden will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They will discuss authorizing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike deep into Russia, stated US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a press conference with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Blinken stated that Biden will discuss granting Ukraine permission for long-range strikes on Russian territory with the UK Prime Minister on Friday.
The US Secretary of State also confirmed that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran. He believes that the enemy will use them against Ukraine in the next few weeks.
What happened before
The UK, France, and the US are providing Ukraine with long-range missiles, but prohibit their use for strikes on Russia. President Zelenskyy has called for lifting these restrictions to target Russian airfields, but Western partners have not agreed yet. As a result, Ukraine cannot destroy the carriers of guided bombs that attack civilian cities
John Kirby noted that the United States continues to discuss these issues with Ukraine privately.
Pentagon Secretary Lloyd Austin noted that Russia has already moved tactical aircraft beyond the range of ATACMS missiles.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed concerns about possible strikes on targets in Moscow, citing this as the reason for Berlin's decision not to supply Ukraine with Taurus long-range missiles.
