Russia is not responding to Ukraine's proposal for a meeting in Istanbul. And this silence is very strange, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The head of state reminded that he had negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the call, Zelenskyy confirmed that he is ready for direct and substantive negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul.

"I am ready to be in Türkiye. Unfortunately, the world still hasn't received a clear response from Russia regarding the numerous proposals to cease fire. Russian shelling and assaults continue. Moscow has been silent all day about the proposal for a direct meeting. It is a very strange silence," Zelenskyy added.

He pointed out that, in any case, Russia will need to end the war, and it's better to do so sooner. There is no sense in continuing the killings.

"President Erdoğan expressed full readiness to host the meeting. It is important that President Trump (US President Donald Trump - ed.) fully supports the meeting, and we would like him to find the opportunity to be in Türkiye," Zelenskyy added.

Meeting in Istanbul

Russia has effectively ignored the proposal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul for almost a day.

This is despite the fact that it was Moscow that suggested to Kyiv to hold negotiations in Turkey on May 15.

Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko, in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine, has already assessed how likely such a meeting is.
