The meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki may take place by the end of the year, and preparations are already underway, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Wasyl Bodnar said, as reported by RMF24.
"We are working to ensure that the meeting between the President of Ukraine and the President of Poland takes place as soon as possible, and we hope it will happen this year in Warsaw," said Wasyl Bodnar, Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland.
He also added that the Ukrainian side had proposed meeting with the Polish president this week.
"We are waiting for Poland's response and working on the content of the entire visit," he added.
Earlier, Marcin Przydacz, head of the President's International Policy Bureau, stated that the meeting between the leaders could take place in Warsaw in the near future.
According to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland, potential topics for discussion include security issues and peace negotiations. Military cooperation and defense industry cooperation will also be discussed.
In addition, matters related to economic cooperation will be addressed, particularly Ukraine's reconstruction, as well as historical issues related to the exhumation of victims of the Volhynia tragedy (mass killings of Poles during World War II).
What came before
On August 6, Karol Nawrocki took the oath of office and officially became the President of Poland, replacing Andrzej Duda.
Before that, on July 31, Zelenskyy held his first conversation with the President-elect of Poland. The leaders discussed key events expected in the coming months and agreed to exchange visits.
On September 25, Nawrocki announced plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
The President of Poland also said he had already spoken with Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the UN General Assembly. According to him, it was a brief exchange of courtesies in which both leaders emphasized the challenges their countries face.
Earlier, the head of the international policy department in the Polish President's Office stated that if the President of Ukraine wants to meet Polish leader Karol Nawrocki, he should come to Warsaw himself.
