Zelenskyy names 3 goals Ukraine achieved in Kursk operation
Thanks to the operation in the Kursk region, Ukraine has averted the threat of occupation of parts of Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"A very narrow circle of people knew about this operation," he says and notes that this was very good.
According to him, this ensured the operation's success.
"There are goals that I can say. And there are goals that I cannot talk about. The Kursk operation brought several things. First of all, the occupation of the Kharkiv region has been stopped. We had information about the creation of a buffer zone in the Kharkiv region, and then in the north, we did not know the specifics, but we understood that Sumy and Chernihiv regions could be in the plans," Zelenskyy says.
The President says that the intelligence services of Ukraine and Western countries had been informed of the Russians' intentions.
"The Kursk operation resolved the issue of not occupying Sumy and Chernihiv regions. Moreover, it defeated a large number of troops... it defeated a serious group," he says.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched the operation in the Kursk region on August 6. According to Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, as of today, 1300 square kilometers and 100 settlements have been taken under control. About 600 Russian soldiers have been taken prisoner.
Syrskyi also said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region led to Moscow withdrawing about 30,000 troops from the frontline in Ukraine and redeploying them to this area.
