Russia transfers 30,000 troops from Ukraine thanks to Kursk operation
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region has led to Moscow withdrawing about 30,000 troops from the frontline in Ukraine and redeploying them to this area, according to Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"The Kursk operation has distracted a significant number of soldiers. At the moment, we can state that about 30,000 Russian servicemen have already been redeployed to the Kursk direction and this figure is growing," he says.
According to him, Russia is trying to withdraw units from other areas, while in the Pokrovsk sector, it is increasing its efforts. "Our soldiers are doing everything to ensure the safety of civilians, fierce fighting continues daily, this is the area of our special attention," says Syrskyi.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces says that one of the objectives of the offensive in the Kursk sector was to divert significant Russian forces from other areas. "This primarily concerns the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions. Of course, Russia understands this, so it is focusing its main efforts on the Pokrovsk direction, where its most combat-ready units are concentrated," he says.
Ukrainian Armed Forces launched the operation in the Kursk region on August 6. As of today, they have taken control of 1,300 square kilometers and 100 settlements. About 600 Russian soldiers have been taken prisoner.
At the same time, Russian troops are advancing near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Donetsk.
