Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would support a military operation aimed at the Iranian regime in an interview with Sky News.
Zelenskyy explained that people in Iran are seeking help to change the current regime, which openly threatens other countries and causes significant harm. He noted that the regime has existed for many years, with citizens having no rights, and that people are disappearing, being killed, and executed by the thousands.
Zelensky emphasized that he would support an operation that would target the regime, not the Iranian people.
He also mentioned that the United States and Iran are currently engaged in negotiations, which are preferable. However, he is not convinced that the current Iranian leadership genuinely shares that idea.
US-Iran negotiations
The Wall Street Journal reported details of the third round of US-Iran talks regarding the nuclear deal. According to sources, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner demanded that Iran dismantle its three main nuclear sites and hand over all remaining enriched uranium to the United States.
US officials also stressed that any nuclear agreement must be permanent, unlike the previous deal made under former President Barack Obama, which had a limited duration.
Iran rejected the idea of moving uranium stocks abroad and opposed halting enrichment, dismantling nuclear facilities, or imposing permanent restrictions on its nuclear program.
Amid stalled negotiations, President Donald Trump does not rule out a military solution to the issue. Reuters reported that Washington is considering options ranging from targeted strikes to a broader regime-change strategy in Iran.
In addition, over the past month, the United States has deployed a large number of aircraft, ships, and other military equipment to the region.
