Zelenskyy instructs to update system of professional holidays in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the system of professional holidays and memorial days will be updated. Currently, there are situations where professional holidays coincide with days of mourning or remembrance, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy notes that for many years, Ukraine has observed multiple instances of overlapping professional holidays and memorial days in its calendar. These overlaps have led to situations where different significant days are celebrated simultaneously. For instance, he mentions that both Physical Culture and Sports Day and Ukrainian Cinema Day are observed on the second Saturday of September.
"And there are too many such coincidences in our calendar. Lawyer's Day and Artist's Day. Builder's Day and Veterinary Medicine Workers' Day. There are overlaps of professional days and memorial days. In particular, next year in May, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide coincides with Science Day. It is evident that there are many unacceptable conflations of meanings," the President emphasized.
He notes that some professional communities still celebrate their days based on Soviet patterns. At the same time, some extremely important memorial days and days of Ukrainian achievements are not reflected at all in the official calendar.
"In fact, I have instructed the government of Ukraine and relevant state institutions to review this entire system of state attention and update it fairly and logically," the President added.
During his video address, the head of state also states that Russian occupiers are preparing to strike again during the winter, but Ukraine must stand firm.
