The Ukrainian army is achieving significant progress in the Sumy region. At the same time, Russian forces are suffering heavy losses in the Kharkiv region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president shared information from today's briefing by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"There are good results along the Sumy border. Our units continue advancing toward the state border of Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
He thanked soldiers of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment and the 71st Jaeger Brigade. He also noted successes on other fronts.

"Russian forces are suffering heavy losses in Kharkiv, in Kupiansk, and in Donetsk. We continue operations in the Dobropillia direction. Importantly, Russian assaults are being repelled by our troops," the president added.
Zelenskyy expressed special gratitude to soldiers of the 1st, 225th, and 425th Separate Assault Regiments, as well as the 79th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades.
"Great job, everyone. We are acting according to the situation in the Zaporizhzhia direction as well," Zelenskyy concluded.
Ukrainian Armed Forces' gains on the front
Recently, Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian troops had successfully halted a Russian offensive operation in the Sumy region. He said the Russian army suffered losses.
"There are results in the Sumy region: as of today, we can state that the Russian offensive operation on Sumy has been completely thwarted by our forces. Fighting continues in the border areas of the Sumy region, but the Russian grouping in the Sumy direction has lost its offensive capabilities due to the losses it has suffered," he said.
According to a report by the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on September 12, Russian forces continue to launch attacks in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as in several other directions. However, these operations have produced no results for Russia.
