Ukrainian forces crush Russian offensive on Sumy, says Zelenskyy

Ukrainian forces have completely thwarted the Russian offensive operation on Sumy. The enemy suffered heavy losses, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.
As the Head of State reported, today he held a very substantive meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff. They discussed the supply of air defense systems and missiles for them, the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the available defense resources.
"I set specific tasks to intensify work with partners for faster deliveries, and therefore, more reliable protection of critical infrastructure. The military, government officials, diplomats — everyone has their own share of responsibility," Zelenskyy noted.
According to him, there are good results in the production of interceptor drones. At the same time, it is important to increase the training of operators.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on the situation in key sectors of the front.
"There are results in the Sumy region: as of today, we can state that the Russian offensive operation on Sumy has been completely thwarted by our forces. Fighting continues in the border areas of the Sumy region, but the Russian grouping in the Sumy direction has lost its offensive capabilities due to the losses it has suffered," the President reported.
He added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine also continue to actively counter Russian assault activity in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
"We discussed our needs in weapons — our Ukrainian production, procurement, and assistance from partners. We are ensuring strength for our army," Zelenskyy noted.
Fighting in the Sumy region
On June 24, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) stated that a significant decrease in combat activity of Russian troops was observed in the Sumy direction.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that he allegedly did not set his forces the task of occupying Sumy, but does not rule out such a scenario.
Already on June 26, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian defenders had managed to stop the Russians in the Sumy region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia's intentions regarding the Sumy region are not being realized, as the Armed Forces of Ukraine are disrupting the enemy's plans.
