Zelenskyy on fighting in Ukraine's Sumy region: Russia’s plan for an offensive not being realized

Ukrainian soldiers are thwarting the Russian forces’ plans for an offensive in the Sumy region. Russia’s intentions are not being realized, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.
The head of state said he held a meeting with the military and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, during which key issues were discussed in detail.
According to Zelenskyy, he discussed the front line and the Pokrovsk direction with the military. Russia has concentrated a large force near Pokrovsk, with numerous assaults being recorded there.
The Sumy direction was also specifically addressed during the meeting. A week ago, Ukrainian troops were assigned special tasks and specific lines to hold. As of today, those tasks have been fully accomplished.
"Russia’s plan for an offensive in the Sumy region is not being realized, and this is the result of every Ukrainian unit operating in that direction. We are also continuing active operations as part of the Kursk campaign. The goal of the operation has been maintained for nearly 10 months now," the president stated.
The meeting also included a detailed discussion about Ukrainian drones — financing, contracts, production, supply, long-range strikes, and interceptor drones.
"We are ramping up production. In the near future, I will speak with European Union leaders about additional funding for drone manufacturing and joint production. Ukraine’s leadership in warfare technologies must continue to be ensured," he added.
Ukrainian Armed Forces' successes
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Ukrainian troops had achieved certain gains in the northern part of the Sumy region.
On June 26, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian defenders had managed to stop Russian forces in the Sumy region.
