President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, on Wednesday, April 3rd. In particular, they discussed preparations for the signing of a security guarantee agreement, according to the Telegram channel of the head of state.

Zelenskyy congratulated Montenegro on taking office as prime minister. The President also thanked him for his principled personal position in supporting Ukraine and wished him fruitful work for the prosperity of Portugal.

"We discussed the progress in implementing previous defense agreements between our countries and instructed our teams to start working on preparing a bilateral security agreement within the framework of the G7 declaration. We coordinated future joint contacts," Zelenskyy wrote.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

At the NATO Vilnius Summit, G7 countries signed a declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine, which was later joined by several other countries.

The agreement not only covers military assistance but also financial and economic support, as well as the reconstruction of Ukraine. Furthermore, the agreements provide a guarantee of assistance to Kyiv in case of renewed aggression by the Russian Federation.
