Russians have failed to capture Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, despite claims by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
Front-line situation
According to him, fierce fighting for Kostiantynivka is ongoing. The most difficult sectors of the front remain the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions.
"Fighting also continues for Kostiantynivka, which Putin has already claimed for himself, but clearly, he will never risk showing up there. Because in reality, all he truly has is Moscow, St. Petersburg, and his residences," Zelenskyy said.
Russian losses
The head of state stressed the cynicism of the war, saying that the Kremlin head relies only on his inner circle while destroying everything within his reach. At the same time, the Kremlin is sacrificing at least 30,000 of its own citizens every month.
"This June, too, there were almost 30,000 confirmed losses among the Russian occupiers at the front—killed or severely wounded," the president said.
Zelenskyy thanked all Ukrainian service members currently fighting for the country on the most difficult front-line sectors.
Kostiantynivka context
Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Putin to hold talks in the "captured" city of Kostiantynivka. According to the Ukrainian leader, if the city were truly under Russian control, the Russian president should have no problem traveling there for negotiations.
The Kremlin later responded to Zelenskyy's proposal for talks in Kostiantynivka, putting forward what critics described as an absurd condition. Russian officials said Putin was willing to meet, but only in the Russian capital.
In addition, the Ukrainian military has explained why Russia is seeking a pause in fighting around Kostiantynivka. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian troops urgently need at least a six-hour ceasefire to regroup and realistically assess their position in the city.
