Ukrainian soldiers already have combat experience with the new Flamingo and Ruta missiles. New strikes on enemy targets are expected soon, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with journalists on October 27.
"Flamingo — there has been combat use. Ruta — there has been combat use. We are doing everything so that this year, we try not just one, two, or three, but make a serious effort. We are moving toward this. We believe we will succeed," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, everyone is hoping for further successful strikes with the new weapons, as repeated use of the new missiles has already shown effective results.
New Ukrainian missiles
At the end of August, the media reported that Ukraine had begun serial production of the Flamingo cruise missiles.
Soon after, Ukraine's Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal confirmed the production of these missiles, adding that the Ukrainian Flamingo cruise missile is a very powerful and long-range weapon.
In October, The Economist reported that Ukraine had begun using the Flamingo missiles to strike targets in Russia.
On October 9, the Welt wrote that Ukraine used three domestically produced Flamingo missiles to strike an FSB intelligence base in occupied Crimea.
Last week, Zelenskyy said that there had been a problem with the production of Ukrainian Flamingo missiles. However, the state order will still be fulfilled. Zelenskyy assured that the country had found resources to fund production, so Ukraine will have a certain number of missiles. The exact number of them is not being disclosed.
