Zelenskyy confirms civilian deaths in Russian night attack, urges allies to respond

Russia carried out another massive attack on Ukraine overnight. Civilian cities and energy facilities came under fire, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Another night that proves Russia does not feel enough pressure for prolonging the war," the president emphasized.
Zelenskyy noted that throughout the night and morning, Ukrainian air defense forces, mobile fire groups, and interceptor drone crews were operating. Ordinary cities were under attack, mainly energy infrastructure, but there were also many hits on residential buildings.
Fires were recorded in Zaporizhzhia, and residential buildings were hit in Kyiv. The Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, and Sumy regions were affected.
"As of now, 17 people are known to have been injured. Six people, including two children, have unfortunately been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones," he said.
Zelenskyy addresses partners
The president emphasized that Russian statements about diplomacy mean nothing until Russian leaders feel critical pressure.
"And this can be ensured only through sanctions, only through long-range capabilities, and only through coordinated diplomacy by all our partners. It is time for the European Union to adopt a strong sanctions package. We also count on strong sanctions measures from the United States and the G7, from everyone who seeks peace. It is imperative that the world does not remain silent now and that there is a united response to Russia's treacherous strikes," he stressed.
According to Zelenskyy, everyone who now helps Ukraine with air defense systems and missiles for them is protecting lives.
"We are grateful for this. And everyone who helps Ukraine with long-range capabilities brings the end of the war closer," the president concluded.
Massive attack on Kyiv and regions of Ukraine
On the morning of October 22, Russia once again attacked Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine with drones. Explosions were heard in the capital starting at around 5 a.m. The aftermath has been recorded in at least four districts. Rescuers and medical teams are working at the scenes.
According to preliminary information, people were killed in the attack, and among the injured is a two-year-old child. Several apartments and utility networks in residential buildings were damaged, and infrastructure destruction was reported.
Rescuers, in turn, have shared images showing the aftermath of the enemy attack on the capital.
Other regions also came under enemy fire. In Zaporizhzhia, more than ten people were injured during the night attack, and residents were evacuated from dangerous areas. About two thousand consumers were left without electricity.
