Zelenskyy condemns Russia's barbaric shelling of Sumy

Russia brutally shelled the center of the border city Sumy with rocket artillery. There are casualties and many injured; a rescue operation is underway, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Russian forces deliberately struck the center of Sumy, hitting residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. As a result of the attack, three people were killed, and many others were injured. A rescue operation is ongoing.
Zelenskyy called the shelling "barbaric" and emphasized that one of the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) shells did not explode, instead piercing the wall of an apartment on the ninth floor. According to him, this is clear evidence of Russia’s intent to continue the war.
The head of state stressed the need for pressure from the US, Europe, and the international community to force the Kremlin to cease fire.
"Not a single day goes by without Russia striking Ukrainian towns and villages. Every day we lose our people due to Russian terror," Zelenskyy stated.
He thanked international partners for their support through sanctions and military aid, which help protect the lives of Ukrainians.
Attack on Sumy
On June 3, the Russian army launched a strike on the center of Sumy. As a result, three people were killed and about 20 others were injured, including four children and a 17-year-old teenager.
The shelling occurred around 9 a.m. Kyiv time, when long-range MLRS struck the city. Residential buildings, a medical facility, and several vehicles traveling on the road were damaged.
Rescuers are working at the scene, and a headquarters has been set up to eliminate the consequences of the attack. The prosecutor's office reported that one missile hit vehicles in the city center, while others struck the outskirts.
The situation remains tense, with ongoing efforts to assist the victims and determine the full extent of the destruction.
