Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved new combat operations together with the acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Yevhen Khmara, according to Zelenskyy's post.
The President said he received a briefing from Khmara, stressing that the SBU remains actively engaged in protecting Ukraine and its people.
"I approved new combat operations. The internal transformation of the Service is also continuing – in a way that strengthens our state," Zelenskyy said.
Shortly afterward, Zelenskyy added that he also received a report from former SBU head Vasyl Malyuk.
"We are continuing preparations for our asymmetric operations against Russia. All necessary resources of the Security Service of Ukraine and other state structures have been fully provided," he assured.
Appointment of Khmara
On January 5, Vasyl Malyuk, who was still the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, announced his resignation. On January 13, Parliament approved his resignation.
After a meeting with Maliuk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had proposed Malyuk to remain within the Security Service of Ukraine and take responsibility for organizing asymmetric special operations against Russia.
The head of state expects Malyuk to make this direction one of the strongest in the world.
On the same day, January 5, President Zelenskyy announced that Yevhen Khmara, head of the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center, had been appointed acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy signed the corresponding decree.
On January 10, after a briefing by Khmara, the President said SBU's special operations have yielded results. According to Zelenskyy, new operations were also approved during that meeting.
