What came before

As a reminder, last week US President Donald Trump stated that he is sending his special representative, Steve Witkoff, to Moscow, and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to Kyiv. The American officials are expected to discuss a peace plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump himself, as well as Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, stated that Witkoff would arrive in Moscow next week.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has already said that he wants to discuss the legal recognition of Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories as "Russian."

According to The Telegraph, Trump is "ready to recognize Russia's control" over the occupied territories of Ukraine. The outlet writes that he is sending not only Witkoff to Moscow, but also his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
