President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel, announced that following Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy, logistics, water supply, and gas systems, a decision has been made to form a coalition to support the country's energy sector.

"Not only electricity came under attack — you know this very well. And recently, a decision was made to organize such a coalition in support of Ukraine's energy sector," said the President.

He added that Ukraine immediately felt support from Norway, the Netherlands, and personally from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"I think we'll soon hold a video meeting of our, for now, small team. But I'm confident that we'll be able to join forces and bring other countries on board. We will need this support," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy sector

Since the beginning of autumn, Russia has carried out a series of strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The aggressor's main targets have been combined heat and power plants, thermal power stations, and other critical energy facilities.

President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine expects further power shortages amid new Russian attacks, saying the country will have to start importing electricity from the EU.

To speed up the response to the aftermath of the strikes, the Cabinet of Ministers has established a Center for Coordination of Engineering Protection and adopted several decisions to accelerate the defense of critical infrastructure.

It should be noted that today, October 28, Russian forces attacked one of the key power supply facilities in the Chernihiv region. A repair crew also came under fire.
