By the end of this year, Ukraine will receive even more ammunition from Czechia. There is also potential to supply Ukrainian defenders with shells next year, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He said he discussed the Czech initiative with Czech President Petr Pavel.
"We also addressed the continuation of the Czech initiative, which has already delivered 1.8 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine, with further supplies expected by the end of the year. There is also potential to ensure ammunition supplies for Ukraine next year. We must implement all key initiatives," the Ukrainian leader said.
Zelenskyy added that Pavel monitors not only diplomacy but also the situation on the front. The two presidents discussed a strong Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in Kupiansk, which "demonstrated the true worth of words coming from Moscow."
"It is very important for us that the world knows the truth – Ukrainians are holding their positions, and this provides the right foundation for diplomatic efforts, which we also discussed today," the President emphasized.
Czech initiative
In February 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel announced plans to collect 800,000 artillery shells and deliver them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The first batch of ammunition arrived in Ukraine in June 2024.
President Pavel has emphasized that Czechia cannot halt its shell initiative for Ukraine, as this would have serious consequences. In his view, canceling the initiative would harm Czechia first and foremost. Additionally, it would have negative consequences for Ukraine, potentially resulting in even more casualties.
