Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team remain in contact with the US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff. Still, the planned meeting in Türkiye will not take place, according to the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Andriy Yermak, and Axios.
"I arrived in Türkiye as part of the delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. All scheduled meetings are taking place on time and in a working atmosphere," Yermak said.
He also noted that he is in constant contact with representatives of Donald Trump's administration, including the US President's envoy Steve Witkoff.
"Together with our American partners, we are working on ending Russian aggression against Ukraine and achieving a just and lasting peace," he added.
According to Axios sources, Witkoff was supposed to meet with Zelenskyy today in Türkiye but postponed his trip.
What came beforeThe
The President of Ukraine arrived in Türkiye today, November 19, on a working visit. He was met at the airport by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
As is known, negotiations between Zelenskyy and Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are planned for today.
Zelenskyy earlier stated that he would travel to Türkiye to activate negotiations, present prepared solutions to partners, and resume the exchange of prisoners of war.
Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the war between Ukraine and Russian forces would eventually end in negotiations. They should be held in Türkiye, as it is the only acceptable venue for both sides.
Ukraine and Russia resumed negotiations in Istanbul in 2025, following Donald Trump's election as US president. However, during three rounds of meetings (in May, June, and July), no progress was achieved, except for issues related to prisoner exchanges.
