President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is holding a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, according to a statement by the president’s spokesperson, Serhii Nykyforov.

"President Zelenskyy is holding a phone conversation with President Trump. We will share the details after it concludes," Nykyforov said.

Shortly before this, Trump had announced his upcoming conversation with Zelenskyy.

"We just concluded the rare earth deal with Ukraine. That’s been fully ratified and approved by their legislative branches, and so we appreciate that, and I’ll be speaking with the president in a little while, a little bit later," the US president said earlier.

US–Ukraine agreement

Earlier this month, Ukraine and the US signed an economic partnership agreement, also known as the minerals deal. This agreement provides for the creation of a Reconstruction Investment Fund, which will be jointly managed by Ukraine and the United States.

Today, on May 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the agreement with the US. Parliament provided further explanation on what this means and what steps will follow. More details can be found in the RBC-Ukraine material.
