Zelenskyy and Swedish Defense Minister discuss agreement on security assurances
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson discussed a security assurance agreement.
"The visit of Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson on this day is an important sign of Sweden's solidarity with Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
He noted that during the meeting, they discussed the possibility of joint weapons production and future bilateral negotiations on signing an agreement on security guarantees.
"The 15th package announced by the Swedish government these days has become the largest in terms of volume: almost 700 million euros. Thank you for the powerful practical support for Ukraine," the President emphasized.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
In July 2023, at the NATO Summit, the G7 countries signed a declaration on security assurances for Ukraine. It was later joined by several dozen other EU and NATO countries. The declaration provides for a bilateral agreement between the signatory country and Ukraine.
The first agreement on security assurances was signed in early January 2024 with the UK. During his visit to Europe in February this year, Zelenskyy signed the relevant agreements with Germany and France.
In addition, yesterday an agreement on security assurances was signed with Denmark. And today, Ukraine has signed agreements with Italy and Canada.
