President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov. They defined several points that are important in the process of negotiations with the US, according to the president's Telegram channel.
According to Zelenskyy, Budanov reported on the security situation, the political situation around Ukraine, and the current prospects.
"We defined several points that are important in the negotiation process," the president added.
Peace plan negotiations
As a reminder, American and Russian officials developed a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. It consisted of 28 points, most of which contradict Ukraine's interests.
On November 23, negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Geneva regarding the US peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
After the talks, the Financial Times reported that the document had been significantly shortened — instead of 28 points, it now contains 19.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump stated that the plan had been reduced to 22 points.
The Ukrainian delegation, following the meeting, reported "a common understanding of the key conditions of the agreement."
Today it became known that the Ukrainian delegation departed for the US for further discussion of the peace plan.
It is expected that the delegation, which includes Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya, will meet with US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner in Florida.
Earlier, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, was expected to travel to the US for negotiations, as he was leading the Ukrainian delegation.
However, yesterday morning NABU conducted searches at his residence as part of the Midas case related to a corruption scandal in the energy sector. And by the evening, Yermak submitted his resignation, which was accepted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Today Zelenskyy approved the composition of the delegation that will participate in peace negotiations with the US, as well as with representatives of the Russian Federation. He appointed Umerov as the head of the Ukrainian delegation.
