The Zaporizhzhia region is mined tens of times more than other regions of Ukraine that have been affected by combat actions, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs(MIA), Ihor Klymenko, in an interview with "Radio Svoboda."

The Zaporizhzhia region is mined tens of times more than other regions of Ukraine that have been affected by combat actions, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs(MIA), Ihor Klymenko, in an interview with "Radio Svoboda."

"The level of mining that the enemy is conducting in the territory of the Zaporizhzhia region, and the ongoing offensive, is tens of times higher than the mining in, for example, the Chernihiv or the Sumy regions, where the enemy also mined territories," he stated.

Klymenko added that Ukrainian specialists continue to demine liberated territories. For instance, in the Kyiv region, active civilian life has been mostly cleared of explosive objects. However, hectares of fields are still left mined.

"That's why we are waiting for mechanical demining vehicles to work in the fields," the minister emphasized.

Demining in Ukraine

Due to the armed conflicts and occupation, parts of Ukraine are contaminated with explosive devices. Some analysts consider Ukraine to be the most mined country in the world.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine initiated a new state policy on humanitarian demining and called other countries to assist in this field.
