Ukrainian intel: Russian Su-27UB fighter wiped out

On the night of July 26, a Su-27UB combat trainer fighter jet was destroyed at the Armavir military airfield in the Krasnodar Krai of Russia, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
"An SU-27UB aircraft was destroyed in Armavir, Russia," the DIU said.
On the night of July 25-26, a SU-27UB combat trainer fighter jet of the Russian Armed Forces caught fire at the Armavir airfield in the Krasnodar region.
According to locals, there is no communication in the settlements near the airfield.
The Armavir airfield and its aircraft are used primarily for training cadets of the Krasnodar Aviation School.
"Resistance to the Kremlin regime inside Russia is growing," the intelligence added.
The Su-27 is a fourth-generation Soviet all-weather supersonic heavy fighter. The aircraft is designed to gain air superiority, but is also used for missile and bomb attacks on ground targets.
The Su-27 is capable of carrying tactical nuclear munitions. This aircraft is one of the main combat aircraft of the Russian Air Force.
Its modifications are in service in the CIS countries, as well as in India, China, and other countries. Several modifications have been created on the basis of the Su-27, including:
- Su-27UB combat trainer,
- Su-33 deck-mounted fighter,
- Su-33UB combat trainer,
- Su-30, Su-27M, Su-35 multi-role fighters,
- Su-34 frontline bomber, and others.
As of 2019, the Su-27/30 series was the world's third-largest combat aircraft and the most common among all Russian combat aircraft.
In April of this year, a Su-30SM multi-role fighter jet caught fire and burned down at the Rostov-on-Don Central airfield in Russia. The estimated cost of the destroyed aircraft is $50 million.
Prior to that, Ukrainian reconnaissance aircraft downed a Russian Su-30SM in the Black Sea. They hit it with a man-portable air defense system.
