Zaporizhzhia has suffered from attacks before. On June 12, a Russian drone attacked a Nova Poshta (logistics) terminal in the city — a large fire broke out, although there were no casualties at that time.

Strikes on civilian infrastructure continue across the country. On the night of June 15, Russia launched a combined strike on Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, high-rises, and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, with injuries reported.

The scale of terror is steadily increasing. According to the UN, May 2026 was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine in the past four years — the total number of victims exceeded 2,000 people in just one month. The main cause is Russia's use of powerful weapons in urban areas: missiles and aerial bombs have repeatedly killed and wounded dozens of people in a single strike.
