Chinese leader Xi Jinping reiterated his position on the resolution of the war in Ukraine. It boils down to supporting peace by facilitating negotiations, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Xi assured the President of the European Council that China views Europe as an important pole in a multipolar world and expressed support for the European Union's strategic autonomy.

He highlighted that Beijing and Brussels do not have fundamental conflicts of interest or geopolitical contradictions. The Chinese side trusts the EU and hopes to strengthen strategic communication.

Xi and Costa also discussed the war in Ukraine.

"The two sides exchanged views on matters such as Ukraine. Xi Jinping elaborated on China's principled position, which is centered on supporting peace and promoting negotiations," the statement said.

In December, Xi Jinping made a statement about the war in Ukraine during a meeting with Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev. According to Xi, Beijing insists on "three principles of de-escalation."

The conflict zone should not expand, escalation and provocations leading to increased fire should be avoided.

Notably, the respected outlet Politico suggests that an unexpected alliance between Xi and Donald Trump in 2025 may help end the war in Ukraine and achieve peace on acceptable terms.
