Special envoy for President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, is set to travel to Moscow today, 1 December, amid ongoing diplomatic talks over ending the war in Ukraine, according to CNN.

According to the outlet, Witkoff is expected to meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin during his trip to Moscow. The visit comes just one day after Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Jared Kushner held talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida.

CNN notes that it remains unclear whether Jared Kushner will accompany Witkoff to Russia. Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that Kushner might join the trip.

Witkoff's meeting and US peace plan

US President Donald Trump confirmed earlier that Steve Witkoff will meet with Putin this week, though he did not specify the exact day. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously indicated that the meeting may take place before Putin’s trip to India, approximately on December 4–5.

The visit to Moscow comes after nearly two weeks of negotiations on the updated US peace plan for Ukraine. On November 23 in Geneva, Ukrainian and American delegations adjusted the draft document, and on November 30 in Florida, they continued to refine its details.

According to media reports, the US side aimed to resolve disagreements on two critical issues, territory and security guarantees. Discussions also touched on possible election timelines.

Following the meeting, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov stated that significant progress had been made toward achieving a just peace and that Kyiv’s and Washington’s positions had become closer. Shortly afterward, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the dialogue remains constructive and that both sides will continue working toward a peace deal.
