Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet with Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff ahead of his trip to India, likely around December 4-5, reports Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Speaking to Russian state broadcaster Rossiya, Peskov said the meeting is planned for approximately December 4-5, ahead of Putin's official visit to India.
He did not provide a more precise date and did not share details about the upcoming discussions between the envoy and the Russian leader.
On November 30, senior US officials will meet with a Ukrainian delegation to discuss a peace plan, with Witkoff among them. Based on his actions and Western media reports, he appears to directly support Russian interests.
For example, it emerged that Witkoff disrupted the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Bloomberg released more details about the plan, including a leaked transcript of Witkoff's conversation with Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov.
In the transcript, Witkoff guided Russia on how to present its peace proposals to Trump and pushed for a US-Russia leaders' meeting to take place before Zelenskyy's visit, which happened as he suggested. The leak drew outrage from US senators and politicians, who called for Witkoff's removal.
The White House publicly ignored the backlash and later defended the envoy. Despite the controversy, Trump announced he would send Witkoff to Moscow. According to media reports and Kremlin statements, the visit is expected next week.
