Witkoff to brief Ukraine and NATO officials on meeting with Putin, says Axios

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff plans to hold a videoconference today, August 7, with officials from Ukraine and five other countries. He will brief them on his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Axios reports.
Unnamed sources told Axios that high-ranking officials from Ukraine, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom will participate in the call.
In addition to the Moscow meeting, Witkoff is expected to discuss further plans with them, including a potential summit between US President Donald Trump and Putin.
According to Axios, Trump’s recent conversation with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised concern in Kyiv and other European capitals, as there is now uncertainty over whether the US will impose new sanctions on Russia, as previously promised by the American leader.
At the same time, according to the outlet, unnamed Ukrainian officials say that Putin’s proposal to meet with Trump is Putin’s way of trying to strike a deal with the US directly, without the involvement of Ukraine or European countries.
Witkoff’s meeting with Putin
On August 6, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
US President Donald Trump described the meeting as a success.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not rule out that Russia may now be more inclined toward a ceasefire with Ukraine.
