Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that tomorrow, January 22, he will meet in Moscow with US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, according to the Kremlin press service.

Putin spoke about Witkoff’s and Kushner’s visit to Moscow during a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council.

According to the President, they will arrive in the Russian capital to continue dialogue on resolving the Russia-Ukraine war. Putin also added that he wants to discuss with representatives of US President Donald Trump’s administration the possibility of using Russian assets frozen in the United States to make a $1 billion contribution to the Board of Peace. He claimed that the remaining assets could be directed toward rebuilding territories affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The United States has frozen a total of $5 billion in Russian assets. The bulk of Russia’s assets are frozen in European countries, amounting to approximately €210–230 billion.

Announcement of the Witkoff–Putin meeting

Earlier, US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff had already stated that he is scheduled to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin on January 22.

According to Witkoff, the meeting was initiated by the Russian side.

Notably, according to Axios, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to take place tomorrow, January 22, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Trump himself also announced a meeting with Zelenskyy during his speech at the forum today.

Trump recently claimed that it is Zelenskyy, not Putin, who is slowing down a peace deal.
