Hungary has given Ukraine the green light to open negotiation clusters for EU accession. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Asked by a journalist how Ukraine had ultimately managed to reach an agreement with Hungary, Sybiha replied that "in foreign policy, which is based on countries’ national interests, there can be no dead ends."

"There is a creative way out of any corner. I believe that Ukraine and Hungary are on the right track to ensure that the new chapter we have begun is filled with mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.

Ukraine is open to regional and bilateral projects to unblock its path to EU membership, the minister said.

According to Sybiha, Hungary was the only obstacle to opening the remaining negotiation clusters.

"Two clusters remain. Procedurally, the green light has been given for both. We understand the next steps. Ukraine is ready to do its homework, as this is also in our national interest on the path toward full EU membership," he assured.

Sybiha said that Ukraine remains in constant communication and in contact with its Hungarian partners, adding that Ukraine respects and appreciates this engagement. He expressed hope that the agreement would be honoured.

Asked whether Zelenskyy could meet with Magyar, Sybiha answered in the affirmative.

"The meeting should take place, and we are ready for it. If an opportunity arises soon, or if there is an international event, I believe it would be appropriate for the meeting to take place. We are interested in it," he clarified.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukraine’s parliament had adopted a law on the educational rights of national minorities demanded by Hungary. The issue affects whether Ukraine will be able to open the next stages of EU accession negotiations.

In addition, Hungary gave the green light to negotiations on Ukraine’s EU accession in two more clusters.
