What's needed for Ukraine aid bill to be back on House agenda, Speaker Johnson
The US House of Representatives will address the issue of new funding for Ukraine after a potential temporary government shutdown, says Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson in a comment to Voice of America.
It is reported that Johnson was asked whether he had an answer to the call of 23 European leaders to approve new aid to Ukraine.
"The House is looking at all available options right now, and we'll address that as soon as the government is funded," the speaker said.
US aid to Ukraine
The US has not been able to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine for several months. Because of this, the supply of weapons to Ukrainian forces from the Americans has been suspended.
Recently, the US Senate passed a bill to provide $95 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. More than 60 billion dollars have been allocated for Ukraine.
However, in order for the decision to become effective, the document must be also supported by the House of Representatives.
House Speaker Mike Johnson previously said he did not want to bring the bill to a vote. He believes that money for Ukraine should be considered together with financing the protection of the US border.
A few days ago, US President Joe Biden gathered Congress leaders at the White House, where Johnson was also present. According to the results of the meeting, no specific decisions regarding Ukraine were made.
