What Iranian President's statement on Russia's aggression against Ukraine indicates
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country does not approve of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. This statement likely aims to weaken sanctions imposed on Iran, according to the Telegram channel of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council.
The Iranian President recently declared that the Islamic Republic does not approve of Russia's actions against Ukraine.
Additionally, he once again denied providing ballistic missiles to Russia, which the US had previously reported might be transferred.
"The purpose of such 'peaceful' statements from representatives of the Islamic Republic is likely an attempt to ease sanctions on Iran by engaging in dialogue with Europeans and Americans, as Pezeshkian stated," noted the Center.
Previously, the Center reported that the continuation of the war in Ukraine benefits Iran, as it serves to distract US attention.
Moreover, the war in Ukraine has contributed to the increased cooperation between Iran and Russia on various issues, including enhancing cyber operations, sharing technology for nuclear weapon development, and the potential provision of Russian aircraft.
Iranian President's statement
On September 23, President Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran has supposedly never supported Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Speaking to reporters at the UN General Assembly, he also claimed that since the beginning of his presidency, Iran has not transferred ballistic missiles to Russia, although such deliveries may have occurred earlier.
"We are willing to sit down with the Europeans and the Americans to have a dialogue and negotiations. We have never approved of Russian aggression against Ukrainian territory," Pezeshkian added.
