Why it's healthy
High protein content
Dietitian Avery Zenker explains that yogurt-based dressings contain more protein and are better for weight loss.
They have more protein, fewer calories, and help you feel full longer, making it easier to maintain a calorie deficit. Two tablespoons of this dressing contain just 32 calories and 2g of protein.
Protein is the most satiating macronutrient compared to fats and carbohydrates.
Low in calories
This creamy cilantro-avocado dressing contains fewer calories and less fat than most store-bought dressings.
Traditional creamy dressings can have 90 to 240 calories per two-tablespoon serving, while this one has only 32.
Lime juice and cilantro add rich flavor without extra calories. The avocado contributes healthy fats.
Monounsaturated fats
Studies show that eating monounsaturated fats instead of saturated fats can lead to more fat burning and greater weight loss.
This is due to the thermic effect of food (how many calories your body burns digesting different nutrients).
4 ways to enjoy this dressing
Here are some creative and tasty ways to use the avocado-cilantro dressing:
- As a dressing. Add it to a variety of salads, including leafy greens, bean-based salads, grain bowls, and pasta salads
- As a marinade. It works perfectly as a marinade for chicken or other protein. Marinate for a few hours or overnight before cooking
- As a dip. The creamy yogurt-based sauce is great for raw vegetables, baked fries, or crackers
- As a spread. Use it as a healthier alternative to mayonnaise in sandwiches or wraps; it's creamy without the fat content of mayo
