Ukraine continues to remain in constant contact with the United States and expects further work on a peace agreement, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.

He emphasized today’s briefing by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, following meetings with representatives of US President Donald Trump.

"We continue to remain in constant contact with America, and we expect further work. We feel that America wants to reach a final agreement, and on our part, there is full cooperation. Ukraine has never been and will never be an obstacle to peace," the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is actively working on the documents and ensuring they are "realistic."

"The main thing is that Russia does not sabotage this diplomacy and takes the end of the war one hundred percent seriously. If not, there must be additional pressure on Russia. The world has all the tools to make that pressure work and to ensure peace," he added.

US peace plan

The US has prepared a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. It was later reduced to 20 points.

The most contentious issue is territory. In particular, the US proposes that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region. Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected these demands, stressing that Ukraine will not give up its territories, as this would contradict the Constitution and norms of international law.

At the same time, the head of state has said that a fair option for starting a ceasefire could be fixing it along the current front line.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to cynically blame Ukraine and the West, claiming that the war has not ended because of them.

Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine and the US are not yet discussing the duration of security guarantees. He insists that the US Congress should vote on security guarantees for Ukraine.

In addition, Zelenskyy said last week that Ukraine is "90%" satisfied with the security guarantees from Europe.
