Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summarized the outcomes of the G7 summit held from June 15 to 17, 2025, in Canada, according to a statement from the president.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the partners for concrete decisions to increase military support and new aid tranches funded by frozen Russian assets.

He also highlighted that the partners are ready not only to support Ukraine’s defense now but also to help rebuild the country once the war ends.

Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the sanctions targeting the entities fueling Russia’s war effort. New restrictions were imposed on Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, individuals, and more than 40 companies that help Moscow circumvent sanctions.

“Thank you to everyone who is helping us fight against Russian aggression and who, together with Ukraine, is building a strong architecture for future security,” Zelenskyy stated.

Key takeaways from the G7 summit

The G7 summit concluded on Tuesday, June 17, in Alberta, Canada.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the summit but had to cut his visit short due to Russia’s terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities and US President Donald Trump’s refusal to hold a personal meeting.

Although Trump left the G7 early, he made several statements, including remarks on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Notably, Trump called Russia’s exclusion from the G8 a mistake, suggesting that if Russia had remained in the group, it might not have attacked Ukraine.

He also said he’s been delaying sanctions because he’s waiting for a possible deal to end the war in Ukraine.
