Under the rubble of a high-rise building in Ternopil, rescuers heard a 20-year-old man and established contact with him, according to the Interior Minister of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko.
"Half an hour ago, on the 5th–6th floor level, we heard and made contact with a 20-year-old man. He is trapped in a concrete sarcophagus, but he is alive. And we are confident that we will rescue all the people who, God willing, survived," he said.
According to Klymenko, 25 people have died and around 80 were injured in Ternopil, with 47 hospitalized.
"We are near a building with five entrances, two of which burned completely. We can speak of a tragedy that has shaken all of Ukraine - 19 people burned alive here, including three children aged 5, 7, and 16," the minister added.
Klymenko explained that the fire literally engulfed apartments from the 9th to the 1st floor, leaving residents no time to escape.
