The US peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine has been significantly revised. Washington is optimistic, according to a briefing by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Leavitt was asked to comment on how close a deal to end Russia’s war against Ukraine might be.

"The administration feels very optimistic," she replied.

Leavitt noted that the entire team of President Donald Trump is making enormous efforts toward the peace process in Ukraine.

"Just yesterday, they had very good talks with the Ukrainians in Florida, and now, of course, Special Envoy Whitkoff is on his way to Russia. This is sort of the shuttle diplomacy that you've seen from this administration play out, where we speak equally with both sides. We've put points on paper. Those points have been very much refined," she added.

The press secretary also said that she would not reveal the details and would "allow the negotiators to negotiate."

"But we do feel quite good, and we're hopeful that this war can finally come to an end," she stated.

Ukraine–US negotiations

After the US 28-point peace plan became known, Ukrainian officials have met several times with their American counterparts.

As a result of these meetings, the US initiative has been revised. There is no official information yet on what the peace plan currently looks like.

RBC-Ukraine sources reported that, following the talks in Geneva, a point setting a "limit" on the size of the Ukrainian army was removed from the peace plan.

Today, December 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the most difficult issue remains the question of territories, which was discussed for 6.5 hours during the negotiations.
