Ukraine and Russia may resume peace talks, with US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, helping pave the way, according to a statement from US Vice President JD Vance, as reported by Forbes Breaking News.

Witkoff relaunches negotiations

Vance emphasized that the United States is working to restart negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

"The reason why we haven't struck a peace deal is because they've just been too apart on some of the details of these negotiations," the vice president said.

Vance noted that Witkoff has re-engaged the negotiation process and has been in contact with senior Russian and Ukrainian officials over the past few days.

The vice president stressed that the US special envoy feels optimistic about the talks.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that US Vice President JD Vance agreed with a controversial remark by Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff, who described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a "humanist."

In addition, on October 21, US President Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in St. Petersburg. He brought Putin documents outlining terms for resolving the war in Ukraine.

Reports also emerged that Vladimir Putin told US envoy Steve Witkoff at a meeting that Moscow was allegedly ready for a new round of negotiations with Washington and Kyiv.
