Vance targets Walz on his military service
Republican vice presidential nominee and Ohio senator JD Vance said in an interview with CNN that his opponent from the Democratic party, Tim Walz, lied about his military service in the war.
Vance pointed out that retired US Sgt. Maj. Doug Julin told CNN on Friday that in 2004, Walz dodged his deployment to Iraq by retiring months before.
Trump's vice presidential nominee underlined that Walz knew he was going to Iraq but decided to retire because he wanted to take part in congressional elections.
"He lied about that. He said he didn't know he was going to Iraq when he decided to retire. That is another untruth, as even his senior military officer said", Vance said.
Ohio senator also stated he is not criticizing Walz's military service but criticizing dishonesty, which is "spoken in favor and for the purpose of political benefit."
Vance added that Harris's choice had become "a serious lapse in judgment." He also claimed he wanted to hear about this 'dishonesty' not from Harris' spokesperson but from Harris herself.
What preceded
On August 6, Democratic presidential nominee and incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the presidential campaign.
Recently, a video from 2018 emerged where Walz said that he handled weapons “in war”.
Harris's campaign spokesperson earlier said that Walz had misspoken about his military service and denied allegations of Trump's team and JD Vance.
