US Vice President J.D. Vance assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European allies that US leader Donald Trump will not impose a peace deal with Russia on Ukraine, NBC News informs.
According to two German government officials, Vance assured Zelenskyy and European allies during today’s phone call that the US will not negotiate with Russia to end the war without Ukraine or Europe.
The officials added that Trump, Vance, and other members of the US administration who participated in the call showed a strong interest in what Ukraine and European allies consider key points in diplomatic negotiations.
Trump–Putin meeting
On Friday, August 15, US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The US leader stated that he plans to demand that Putin end the war against Ukraine.
Trump aims to reach a ceasefire agreement with the Russian leader during the upcoming meeting.
He also promised that he would not make any deal with Putin without Ukraine’s participation.
The American leader further believes that achieving peace will require "territory swaps" between Ukraine and Russia.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not withdraw from the Donbas in exchange for a ceasefire.
