US President Donald Trump sharply reacted to France’s decision not to allow American aircraft carrying military cargo, bound for Israel, to pass through its airspace, according to Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social.
"The country of France wouldn’t let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory," Trump emphasized.
He also indicated that he considers Paris’s stance "very unhelpful" in the context of the war with Iran.
"France has been very unhelpful with respect to the Butcher of Iran, who has been successfully eliminated! The USA will remember!!!" the US president concluded.
Escalation between the US and NATO
Against the backdrop of the war with Iran, discussions have already emerged in the US about a possible reassessment of Washington’s role in NATO. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that after the operation against Iran concludes, the United States may reconsider its participation in the Alliance.
He cited as reasons the refusal of most allies to provide support, as well as the closure of bases and airspace to the US.
Earlier, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced that the country would not allow US aircraft to use its airspace during operations against Iran.
Prior to that, Madrid had already refused Washington the use of joint bases, from which the US had to relocate at least 12 tanker aircraft.
In response, Donald Trump ordered the termination of all relations with Spain.
Italy also reportedly secretly denied US bombers permission to land at the Sigonella base.
