US President Donald Trump believes that NATO has failed the test, as Alliance members refused to participate in the American operation against Iran, the US leader made this statement at a Cabinet meeting.
Trump, commenting on the US operation against Iran, said that he is very disappointed in one thing.
"We're very disappointed with NATO because NATO has done absolutely nothing. I said 25 years ago that NATO’s a paper tiger, but more importantly, that we’ll come to their rescue, but they will never come to ours," he added.
According to the US president, his country will come to the aid of NATO allies, but they supposedly would never come to the aid of Americans.
"That's why I'm so disappointed in NATO, because this was a test for NATO. Or you can help us. You don't have to, and if you don't do that, we will remember it. Just remember this in a number of months from now. Remember my words. They have an expression, a great expression, 'Never forget,'" he said.
Trump’s call
After the start of the US-Israeli operation against Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, through which Persian Gulf countries export oil, was blocked.
Against this backdrop, oil prices surged, and the US failed to quickly resolve the situation.
US President Donald Trump requested that NATO allies send their warships to protect the Strait of Hormuz from the Iranian blockade.
In response, NATO countries did not dare to join the operation against Iran. In particular, French President Emmanuel Macron said that his country did not choose this war and would not participate in it.
