US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned China of "significant consequences" for its companies if they assist Russia in its war against Ukraine, according to Reuters.

Yellen held a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Guangzhou on Saturday, April 6. As reported by the publication, both sides agreed to continue discussions on balanced growth and financial stability.

In Beijing, concerns were expressed about US economic and trade restrictions on China.

However, the US Treasury Secretary emphasized that Chinese companies would face consequences if they support Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

"Yellen also said she had warned Chinese firms faced "significant consequences" if they provided material support to Russia's invasion of Ukraine," Reuters writes.

In turn, the Chinese side stressed that its policy does not involve providing such support and does not want it to be a bilateral issue.

China's stance on the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine

It is worth noting that China is trying to maintain neutrality in the war between Russia and Ukraine. However, Beijing has not condemned Moscow and continues economic cooperation with it.

Earlier, China unveiled its "peace plan" for Ukraine, but it faced criticism.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also stated that China plays a significant role in the world, so Ukraine wants this country to be involved in the peace formula. Beijing has not yet agreed, but the Chinese authorities do not criticize the Ukrainian formula.
