The United States wants to continue selling weapons to the European Union even after the war in Ukraine ends. The issue is currently on the negotiating table, said US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker in an interview with Fox Business.

He noted that the United States must ensure it can retain the European arms market after the war in Ukraine ends.

Whitaker said that the defense industrial base in Europe was unable to produce enough to supply Ukraine, which was why the United States had launched initiatives he was personally working on.

He added that all these issues were on the negotiating table. According to him, there was a real opportunity to move closer to the EU if it was willing to address these matters together with the United States.

Karoline Leavitt earlier said the United States cannot supply Ukraine with weapons indefinitely while the war with Russia continues.

She noted that there are limits to providing arms to Kyiv, emphasizing Washington’s desire to see the war end.

On November 18, Spain announced €615 million in assistance to Ukraine. The funds will go toward both weapons purchases and the financing of defense systems.

In addition, Poland will allocate $100 million for military aid and for purchasing US weapons for Ukraine under the PURL initiative.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that Germany intends to increase its support for the PURL initiative, under which NATO allies purchase US weapons for Ukraine.

Berlin is preparing an additional contribution of at least €150 million to speed up deliveries and expand the scale of assistance.
