Spain announced 615 million euros in aid to Ukraine. The funds will be used both for the purchase of weapons and to finance defense systems, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced this during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I informed President Zelenskyy that over the next month, Spain will mobilize a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 615 million euros," he emphasized.

According to him, 300 million euros of this amount will go toward the delivery of weapons, as part of a bilateral security agreement between the two countries valued at 1 billion euros.

"In addition to these 300 million euros, 100 million euros will go to NATO’s PURL program, which will be used to fund the urgent, accelerated procurement of defense systems needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Spanish prime minister said.

He added that the remaining 215 million euros will be allocated through the SAFE instrument, created by the European Commission.

This will finance the production of drone countermeasure systems, reconnaissance radars, and aerial surveillance equipment, many of which are developed by Spanish companies.

It should be recalled that Spain previously announced the allocation of 1 billion euros to purchase military equipment in the United States for subsequent transfer to Ukraine.

These funds will complement the aid package for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. In addition, the new aid package is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that his visit to Spain would be productive and open a new stage of cooperation with one of Ukraine’s strongest partners.
