The United States is holding talks with Ukraine on testing and the possible purchase of Ukrainian drones and electronic warfare systems, as well as gaining access to certain military technologies, Bloomberg reports.

According to the outlet, the Pentagon has already requested tests of several Ukrainian defense developments on US territory. These include drones and electronic warfare (EW) systems that have been battle-tested during the war against Russia.

Bloomberg’s sources say Washington is also interested in gaining access to certain technologies and intellectual property rights as part of a future agreement that is still under discussion.

During talks with the United States, Ukraine argued that its technologies have already proven effective in real combat conditions. Thanks to the development of drones and new tactics, the Defense Forces have been able to strike targets deep inside Russian territory and contain the numerically superior Russian army.

However, according to one source, the US wants to evaluate the products on its own territory using its own personnel before moving forward.

The outlet's sources noted that the United States may be particularly interested in AI-based terminal guidance technologies, GPS-independent navigation, jam-resistant communication channels, and the broader combat doctrine for drone deployment.

One defense industry representative told Bloomberg that the draft document was most likely designed not as a traditional technology transfer agreement, but as a mechanism for testing and evaluating Ukrainian systems in order to shape the future needs of the US Army.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, said the sides are already working on a framework document.

"As a result of the work with the Department of State and the Pentagon, a draft framework document has been developed and is currently being reviewed by both sides at different institutional levels," she noted. "We are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation that will enhance the strength of our armed forces."

West is learning from the Ukrainian Armed Forces

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently the strongest army in Europe, thanks to their combat experience and allied support.

Western military analysts also acknowledge that Ukrainian troops are the best in Europe. Allied countries are particularly interested in Ukraine’s expertise in the use of drones.

Meanwhile, US military personnel have begun adopting the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ experience in detecting drones by their distinctive sound during patrols and combat operations. The United States is also studying Ukraine’s experience in developing acoustic drone detection systems.

In addition, the US military conducted secret exercises in Florida that recreated the tactics of Operation Spiderweb.
