Republican vice presidential candidate Senator J.D. Vance has spoken out about the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the need to push for a "reasonable peace" for Ukraine, according to Voice of America.

"And if you want to bring peace to that region, you need a negotiator whom Vladimir Putin respects. Does anybody here...obviously, we are among the biased crowd... But does anybody here actually think that Vladimir Putin respects Kamala Harris? She is afraid of all of you. She surely isn't going to sit in an audience with Vladimir Putin and push for a reasonable peace,” Vance said.

Vance added, citing unnamed reports, that Ukrainians were reportedly lacking soldiers who could fight, and repeated Donald Trump's statement that Russia would have never invaded Ukraine if Trump were president.

What happened before

On August 6, presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced her choice for the Democratic vice presidential nominee, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Walz has supported Ukraine from the early days of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Trump stated that he plans to contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, if elected, to "achieve peace negotiations."
