US to hold talks on Ukraine soon, focusing on security guarantees

Military representatives from the countries that recently met at the White House are set to hold talks soon in the US, reports RaiNews.
According to the outlet, the meeting will focus on planning and defining specific measures to provide Ukraine with reliable security tools in the event of a ceasefire or the start of a peace process.
It is already known that Italy’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Luciano Portolano, will be in attendance.
“Italy’s participation in these talks confirms our country’s commitment, together with allies and international partners, to contribute to Europe’s stability and security. The presence of the Chief of Staff represents a fundamental operational contribution from Italy within the framework of international coordination aimed at supporting the peace process and strengthening collective security,” said Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
On August 18, a meeting took place at the White House with the leaders of Ukraine, the US, France, Finland, Germany, the UK, Italy, as well as the President of the European Commission and the NATO Secretary General. The main topic of discussion was security guarantees for Ukraine.
Allies considered the possibility of implementing protection mechanisms similar to NATO’s Article 5, but outside the Alliance. Donald Trump confirmed US participation in these guarantees, but emphasized that the main burden should fall on European partners and ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of the Willing announced its readiness to deploy deterrence forces. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the details of the forthcoming guarantees are expected to be finalized within the next 10 days. French President Emmanuel Macron said the next two weeks will be critically important.
